At The Brain & Performance Centre, we recognise autism is not a fixed condition but a diverse symptom cluster that often has treatable biological or neurological causes.
We use advanced Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) testing to look beyond surface-level symptoms.
Our state-of-the-art medical team can help you understand what’s really going on with your child or young adult so you can gain clear answers and, more importantly, the right support to help them thrive.

Your Path to the Right Diagnosis
Every person is unique, and when their unique traits include developmental delays or atypical behaviours, it might be a sign of ASD.
ASD is a behavioral diagnosis that affects how a person interacts with the world.
Early intervention is vital for a child or young adult to be able to reach their full potential.
Our professional assessments for autism test different aspects of a child or young adult’s development and behaviour, providing parents with valuable insights into their child’s needs, ultimately helping their child thrive.

Find the Root Cause of Your Child’s Symptoms
Autism can present in different ways. Sometimes there are clear signs and symptoms, but not in all cases. The Brain & Performance Centre’s autism test does more than simply assess symptoms and their severity.
Our approach dives deeper to identify and understand the root causes of your child’s autism.
Because ASD isn’t a single disease—it’s a group of symptoms with many possible causes. Some children are born with ASD, while others develop typically at first and then begin to regress after a specific event. In some cases, conditions like cerebral palsy, brain injury or meningitis may lead or contribute to ASD.
Our world-class assessment will help recognise the underlying factors contributing to your child’s symptoms. Through comprehensive testing with medical, cognitive, physical, metabolic and genetic assessments, we explore the potential causes of ASD, some of which may be treatable.
Let us guide and empower you to explore potential treatable causes and pave the way towards a brighter future for your child.
Our Child & Young Adult Autism Test Process
No two children are alike, and no two autism assessments should be either.
Our multidisciplinary team gains a comprehensive picture of your child’s health and history. The autism assessment at The Brain & Performance Centre follows these steps:
-
Detailed Medical Evaluation
This includes your child’s medical history, symptoms and when they appeared, a timeline of developmental milestones and a comprehensive neurological examination.
-
Cognitive and Neuropsychological Assessments
Our neuropsychology team conducts evidence-based evaluations to look at your child’s social, communication, cognitive and behavioural performance and skills.
-
Physical Assessment
The intention is to evaluate functional movement, gait or balance difficulties.
-
Nutritional Evaluation
Our dietitians examine whether the macro and micronutrient building blocks are for healthy development.
-
Neuropsychological Testing
If deemed appropriate, we may incorporate further neuropsychological tests to evaluate cognitive development, academic skills, and other brain functions.
-
Advanced Brain Imaging
A core part of our autism assessment is medical testing, including MRI and SPECT, to assess any inflammation, injury or irregular development.
-
Occupational Therapy:
Our occupational therapists will evaluate your child, testing for sensory perception abnormalities and everyday function.
-
Laboratory & Genetic Testing:
This exam uncovers potential causes of autism that may be inherited or connected to metabolism and immunity.
-
Multidisciplinary Team Assessment
Your child’s multidisciplinary team will collaborate to analyse all test results and form a diagnosis. With these integrated insights, our team will develop personalised recommendations for your child’s best potential outcomes.

Key Features of the ASD Test at The Brain & Performance Centre
The Brain & Performance Centre offers a highly customised approach. Our thorough autism test process is managed seamlessly under one roof to set a solid foundation for effective treatment (based on your child’s specific needs, some tests may need to be performed outside the clinic).
Collaborative Evaluation
Specialists across multiple disciplines like paediatrics, neuropsychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and nutrition work together to gain a full understanding of your child’s needs.
Dedicated Patient Coordinators
From their first consultation, your child is paired with a nurse navigator to guide your family through every step, ensuring continuity of care during your child’s assessment journey.
All-Encompassing Commitments
All tests are overseen by our clinical staff from beginning to end. If any tests are required outside the centre, your child’s dedicated nurse navigator accompanies you to manage the process.
Cutting-Edge Genetic Analysis
Genetic factors can play a key role in ASD, which is why we emphasise genetic testing..
Continuous Follow-up
Ongoing support is crucial. Our post-treatment evaluation includes repeated tests of most of the tests we performed before the treatment in order to give you an objective quantifiable review of your child’s journey at BPC. This may include: neuroimaging, neurocognitive and behavioural evaluations, and more.

What to Expect After a Diagnosis
After your loved one’s ASD assessment process is complete and a diagnosis is made, we explore the options that will be most beneficial for their specific needs.
Depending on the root cause of your child’s symptoms, whether they are genetic or acquired, we can recommend two types of treatments:
General Interventions: Regardless of the underlying cause, therapies like occupational, speech, and behavioral therapy can help manage your child’s symptoms and challenges.
Cause-Specific Treatments: If our evaluation uncovers a specific root cause, whether genetic, hypoxia/birth trauma or an autoimmune condition, we can then pursue treatments targeted to that issue.

Specialised Treatment Options for Regressive ASD

In some cases, children develop normally at the beginning of their lives, but then lose their ability to communicate, interact or reach other developmental milestones.
This is known as regressive autism—in which a child loses previously gained language or social skills—and merits deeper investigation. Our assessments rule out often-overlooked causes such as brain injury, meningitis and cerebral palsy.
When regressive autism is believed to be triggered by a specific event, solutions like hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and/or post-concussion syndrome (PCS) treatment may be recommended.
The world’s most advanced hyperbaric oxygen programme at The Brain & Performance Centre involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber using a specialized protocol to promote healing and reduce brain inflammation.
A dedicated HBOT and PCS protocol can enhance brain function, leading to possible improvements in:
- Spontaneous word formation
- Learning ability
- Hyperactivity and self-control
- Eye contact and responsiveness to social cues
- Metabolic and inflammatory markers
