Act Fast. Recovery Is Possible.
Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL) is a medical emergency. It often happens without warning—usually in one ear—and if left untreated, it can lead to permanent hearing damage.
At The Brain & Performance Centre, we offer advanced medical protocols that support rapid intervention and recovery, giving you the best chance to restore your hearing, regain balance and elevate your quality of life.

Know the Symptoms of SSHL
If you’ve experienced a sudden drop in hearing within 72 hours, you may be facing SSHL. It can feel disorienting and frustrating—especially when the cause is unclear.
Common symptoms include:
- Hearing loss (mild to complete) in one ear
- A sensation of ear blockage
- Ringing or buzzing (tinnitus)
- Dizziness or vertigo
Time is critical. The earlier you begin treatment, the higher your chances of recovery.

Understanding Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
SSHL affects thousands of people each year, and in up to 90% of cases, the cause is unknown (idiopathic). However, research points to links with:
- Viral infections
- Blood flow disruption
- Inflammation of the inner ear or auditory nerve
- Autoimmune and neurological conditions
The American Academy of Otolaryngology recognizes Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), especially when combined with corticosteroids, as a proven treatment—most effective when started within 3 days of symptom onset.

Your Personalized SSHL Recovery Plan
SSHL impacts each individual differently. The Brain and Performance Centre prioritizes your personal journey to customize a path toward recovery. Our approach to SSHL is fast, targeted, and personalized. Here’s what to expect:
-
Comprehensive Medical Assessment
The first step is to complete an assessment to determine if you’re a good candidate for treatment. You will need to provide an audiology test (we are happy to refer you to an ENT if you’ve not already had one).
Our team may also recommend a specialized MRI focused on the vestibulocochlear nerve. -
Custom Treatment Programme
Typically includes 20 two-hour HBOT sessions in our advanced chambers.
The programme is delivered in parallel with corticosteroids (from your ENT).
Each HBOT session enhances oxygen delivery to damaged tissues and supports cellular repair.
-
Post-Treatment Review
We’ll evaluate your progress through follow-up testing.
Adjust recommendations for continued healing and hearing improvement.
Our goal is to help you regain hearing, restore balance, and improve your quality of life—as quickly and effectively as possible.
