Programme Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Brain & Performance Programme?

The Brain & Performance Programme is a unique regimen that begins with comprehensive, in-depth assessments of brain and body function. The results of these assessments are the basis for developing a strategically tailored, client-specific treatment plan targeted for personal improvement goals.

Treatment plans include highly specialized HBOT sessions, augmented by cognitive and physical training, as well as nutritional and lifestyle coaching. The combination of our oxygen therapy and the training activities personally tailored for you inside and outside of the Hyperbaric Suite pushes you towards your peak performance. Our clients experience increased energy, improved physical performance, enhanced memory, improved cognitive function, and improved sexual performance (in men).

To meet each person’s individual needs and to accurately track their progress, Brain & Performance Centre employs the latest in monitoring technologies throughout the duration of the Programme. We provide a comprehensive report of physical and cognitive health pre and post-treatment, so that you can see your improvement clearly. A client of Brain & Performance Centre is a client for life, if you would like, we continue to monitor your performance long after the programme has ended, and we continue to send you periodic updates on a variety of health and wellness issues.

No, we have been in Dubai since 2021 providing medical treatments that are based on nearly two decades of research. As a DP World company, we have built strong roots in this community from the day we opened our doors.

Our clients travel from across the globe to address complex medical and performance challenges, or to optimise cognitive and physical function, maintain peak performance, and regain a competitive edge. In adult clients, we treat conditions including stroke, post-concussion syndrome, mild cognitive impairment, fibromyalgia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-concussion syndrome, long covid-19 syndrome, Lyme disease, age-related cognitive and physical decline, sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), among other indications responsive to hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).

Our paediatric and adolescent clients are treated for a range of neurological and developmental conditions, including cerebral palsy (CP), TBI, post-concussion syndrome, stroke, and selected forms of autism spectrum disorder.

Treatments are delivered by a multidisciplinary team of certified healthcare professionals, including physicians, neuropsychologists, clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, sports therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and dietitians. The team operates under the supervision of the Medical Director. Each client is assigned a dedicated Brain & Performance Centre physician and a dedicated nurse to ensure continuity and consistency of care.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has been in clinical use for nearly a century and is delivered in both hospital and outpatient settings worldwide for a range of acute and chronic conditions. It is an established medical treatment modality, with well-defined indications and a robust long-term understanding of its contraindications and potential side effects.

The Brain & Performance Programme is aimed to improve physiological domains such as aerobic performance and capacity, overall fitness, body composition, muscle mass, energy levels, sleep quality, as well as gait and overall balance.

As you can well imagine enhancing cognitive and physical capabilities cannot be done overnight. Rather, it requires a cumulative and uninterrupted process to achieve maximum success. As such, the Brain & Performance Programme takes time and requires strict compliance.

We begin with three days of intensive assessments, at the end of which we’ll share a comprehensive report identifying your baseline cognitive and physical performance. This report also serves as the basis for developing your personalized care plan. This plan will include HBO Therapy, as well as cognitive and physical training, and nutritional coaching.

Your HBOT sessions will take approximately two hours per day, five days a week, for 12 weeks. Two to three times a week, your time at the Clinic is increased to 2.5 hours to allow you to participate in additional on-site training as assigned by your healthcare team.

The longevity of results varies from one individual to the next, and depends on the person’s individual biology, way of life and adherence to all of the Programme’s components during and following treatment (mainly nutrition and physical activity). The Brain & Performance Centre Wearable Device and cognitive training App allow us – with your permission – to track and monitor your physical and cognitive performance over time.

During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), 100% oxygen is inhaled while in a room pressurised above 1.3 atmospheres absolute; while the air pressure in our normal environment is 1 atmosphere. During this process the amount of oxygen that reaches the body’s tissues and organs increases 10-15-fold compared to breathing in a normal environment.

We have developed a novel Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy protocol, based on over 10 years of scientific studies and clinical work. In addition to increasing the amount of oxygen disseminated in your body, during treatments this protocol involves intermittent and precise fluctuations in your body’s oxygen levels to help awaken the body’s natural rejuvenation potential.

Standard protocol Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been around for more than 60 years. It is administered in hospitals regularly for 14 indications and primarily used to help heal wounds (like diabetic wounds), and combat diving accidents.

HBOT has a strong long-term safety record when delivered under appropriate medical supervision. Adverse effects are uncommon, and most are mild, temporary, and manageable. The most relevant potential side effects include the following:

1. Barotrauma (most common side effect)
The most common treatment-related adverse effect is middle ear barotrauma, caused by pressure changes during compression. This may cause ear discomfort, pressure, or pain. Less commonly, pressure-related symptoms can affect the sinuses, and only rarely the inner ear or lungs. Careful screening, patient instruction, controlled compression rates, and close monitoring help minimise this risk.

2. Ophthalmic Effects
A temporary myopic shift (short-sightedness) can occur during a course of repeated HBOT sessions due to oxygen-related effects on the lens of the eye. This is usually reversible after treatment is completed. With prolonged or repeated exposure, there is also evidence suggesting potential acceleration of nuclear cataract formation, although this is typically associated with extended treatment courses and is not commonly seen with standard protocols.

3. Oxygen Toxicity
In rare cases, exposure to high oxygen levels under pressure may lead to central nervous system oxygen toxicity, which can present as a seizure. This is uncommon in our HBOT protocol and usually resolves promptly when oxygen is stopped, without long-term effects. Pulmonary oxygen toxicity is also possible but is rarely seen with standard elective HBOT protocols. The use of treatment breaks (“air breaks”) and established pressure protocols helps reduce these risks.

At The Brain & Performance Centre, safety is prioritised at every stage of your care. Clients undergo medical screening before treatment, are monitored throughout each session by trained clinical staff, and are treated using protocols designed to maximise safety while reducing the risk of adverse effects.

Based on current clinical evidence, there is no evidence that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) causes cancer or promotes tumour growth or recurrence.

HBOT increases tissue oxygenation, which raised theoretical concerns in the past. However, both pre-clinical and clinical data have not demonstrated carcinogenic effects or stimulation of malignancy. On the contrary, HBOT is routinely and safely used in patients with a history of cancer, particularly for the management of late radiation tissue injuries (e.g. radiation cystitis, proctitis, and soft tissue or bone necrosis), which are recognised indications.

Importantly, active cancer is not a contraindication to HBOT in itself. Treatment decisions are made on an individual basis, taking into account the underlying condition, overall clinical context, and treating physician guidance.

A monoplace chamber treats one person at a time and is typically shaped as a clear, body-length tube.

A multiplace chamber accommodates several clients simultaneously within a larger shared environment.

At the Brain & Performance Centre, we use advanced, medical-grade multiplace hyperbaric suites that can accommodate up to 14 clients in spacious, business-class-style seating.

Monoplace chambers are typically pressurised with oxygen, with the patient breathing the chamber environment.

In contrast, multiplace chambers are usually pressurised with air, while clients breathe oxygen via a mask or hood. This design allows for greater treatment flexibility, continuous clinical supervision, and a more comfortable overall experience. During scheduled air breaks, clients can easily remove their masks and breathe ambient air, facilitating controlled fluctuations in oxygen levels, which are considered important for optimising physiological responses especially regenerative effects.

While both chamber types are safe when operated in properly regulated medical settings, oxygen-enriched environments, as used in monoplace chambers, require stricter fire safety controls.

In contrast, low-pressure inflatable “home” chambers are not equivalent to clinical HBOT systems. Most operate at significantly lower pressures and do not achieve the oxygen levels used in recognised medical hyperbaric treatment protocols. In addition, the lack of appropriate medical oversight, standardised protocols, and regulatory control in many of these systems raises important safety concerns and may make their use potentially hazardous.

At the Brain & Performance Centre, our hyperbaric suites are designed to combine medical-grade treatment with a high-quality client experience. Each client is treated in a closely supervised environment, while benefiting from an individual station suitable for cognitive training, reading, or relaxation.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a defined set of clinical indications.

The Brain & Performance Programme, aimed at neurological and cognitive optimisation, is not currently an FDA-approved indication.

However, HBOT may be prescribed and administered for such purposes at the discretion of appropriately trained physicians, provided it is delivered under proper medical supervision and in accordance with applicable clinical and regulatory standards.

You can expect a completely personalized experience in safe and modern cutting-edge facilities. You will benefit from the latest medical technologies, and warm personalised service from a very well trained and professional team.
